Force USA Compact Leg Press & Hack Squat — 2027 Model Review

Honest, independent review — purchased with my own money

First, full disclosure: I purchased this machine out of my own pocket. This is not a paid review, Force USA did not provide me with the equipment, and I received zero incentives or compensation for sharing my experience. These are my honest thoughts as someone putting the machine to use in a home gym.

Overall Impression

So far, I'm very happy with the Force USA Compact Leg Press & Hack Squat — 2027 Model. It's a well-thought-out piece of equipment that gives you multiple ways to train your lower body without needing the space for several separate machines. For a home or garage gym, that's a significant advantage.

The machine combines leg presses, hack squats, and calf raises into one unit. Rather than dedicating a large amount of floor space to individual machines, you get a versatile setup that lets you train your quads, glutes, hamstrings, and calves in a relatively compact footprint.

What impressed me most during setup and initial use was how straightforward the assembly was and how much usable space the footplate provides. At 5'10", I can achieve a full range of motion on both the leg press and hack squat, with room to spare. That's an important consideration because a machine can look great on paper but still feel restrictive once you start using it.

Assembly and Shipping

Assembly was surprisingly easy. I had the machine put together in approximately two hours, which I consider very reasonable for a piece of equipment of this size.

The assembly process was straightforward, and I didn't run into any major issues getting everything together. If you've assembled home gym equipment before, this shouldn't be an especially intimidating project.

Shipping was also a positive experience. Everything arrived without any shipping damage, which is always a relief when ordering heavy equipment that has to make its way to your home.

Footplate and Range of Motion

The footplate is one of my favorite features of this machine. It's large, has a good amount of grip, and provides plenty of room to experiment with different foot positions.

At 5'10", I have no trouble achieving a full range of motion on either the leg press or the hack squat, and I still have room to spare. I don't feel like I'm having to compromise my depth or awkwardly position my feet just to make the machine work for my height.

The generous platform also makes it easier to adjust your stance depending on what you want to emphasize. You can experiment with foot placement and stance width to find what feels most comfortable for your individual build and training style.

For anyone who prioritizes getting a good, controlled range of motion rather than simply moving weight, this is a major plus.

Training Versatility

Having a leg press and hack squat in one machine is incredibly convenient. Both movements have a place in a well-rounded leg program, and being able to switch between them without moving to another piece of equipment makes training more efficient.

The leg press is great for accumulating lower-body volume, while the hack squat provides another way to challenge the quads and train through a controlled squat pattern. The calf-raise capability adds even more utility.

I particularly like this combination for a home gym because it gives you options for training your legs hard without having to rely exclusively on barbell squats. Not everyone enjoys barbell squats, and having a machine that allows you to train your lower body effectively through other movements is a big advantage.

The ability to switch between exercises also makes it easier to structure workouts around your goals. Whether you're focused on hypertrophy, building strength, or simply adding more productive leg volume to your weekly routine, the machine offers plenty of flexibility.

Design and Space Efficiency

The compact design is another major selling point. Dedicated leg presses and hack squat machines can take up a substantial amount of room, especially in a home gym where every square foot matters.

This machine gives you several exercise options in one footprint, making it an attractive choice for anyone trying to maximize the usefulness of their available space.

I also appreciate that it doesn't feel like you're sacrificing the basic functionality of the movements just to get a smaller machine. The large footplate and the range of motion I've experienced make it feel like a practical training tool rather than a compromise designed purely around saving space.

For garage gym owners who want to build a well-rounded setup without filling every inch of the room with equipment, combining these movements into one machine makes a lot of sense.

The One Issue I've Noticed (And How I Fixed It)

My only real complaint so far concerns the fit between the back pad and its support. The back pad fits very tightly against the support, which makes the shoulder-pad anchor fit too tightly as well.

Fortunately, I found a simple workaround: I added two washers as spacers between the back pad and its support to create a little extra clearance. This gave the parts the space they needed and addressed the fitment issue.

It's not a dealbreaker, and the fix was simple, but I do think it's something Force USA could improve in the manufacturing or design tolerances. Ideally, the parts would fit correctly out of the box without requiring an adjustment.

Aside from this minor issue, I haven't encountered any significant problems worth calling out.

Final Verdict

Overall, I'm pleased with the Force USA Compact Leg Press & Hack Squat — 2027 Model. Assembly was easy, shipping was damage-free, and the large, grippy footplate provides excellent usable space. Most importantly, at 5'10", I can achieve a full range of motion on both the leg press and hack squat without feeling cramped or restricted.

For a home gym owner who wants to train legs seriously without dedicating a separate machine to every movement, this is a compelling option. The combination of leg press, hack squat, and calf-raise functionality offers plenty of training versatility in a compact setup.

The tight-fitting back pad and shoulder-pad anchor were the only issues I encountered, and adding two washers as spacers was a simple solution. While I'd prefer not to have to make that adjustment on a brand-new machine, it hasn't diminished my overall positive impression.

Would I recommend it? Based on my experience so far, yes. If you're looking for a versatile lower-body machine for your home or garage gym, the 2027 model deserves a serious look.

And to reiterate: I bought this machine myself, with my own money. No sponsorship, no free equipment, and no incentives. Just an honest review from an owner.
